An Angus bull has sold for an Australian record price at a sale in the NSW Southern Highlands.

The KO Angus bull sold for $110,000 to Gilmandyke Angus stud at Orange.

Stud owner Theo Onisforou says it reflects confidence in the breed.

"It's the breed that is expanding the most, setting all records, achieving a premium for its progeny in the commercial sales, in the weaner sales and in the store sales," he said.

"It was bred in Aberdeen in Scotland

"It's an animal that learnt to lay down fat within its muscle as a way of combatting the cold.

"As we now know, that marbling is beneficial to the taste and tenderness of that beef."
